Riding Mountain UNESCO Biosphere Reserve

The richness of the area surrounding Riding Mountain National Park is more than just farmland and trees. In 1986, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) designated area as the Riding Mountain Biosphere Reserve in 1986, one of only 15 such reserves in Canada. This special designation singles out the importance of better approaches to conservation and sustainable resource use.

More than just its 3000 square kilometer protected core (Riding Mountain National Park), it includes 12 municipalities that surround the park for an additional 12,000 square kilometers! You will have plenty of room to explore!
