Saturday, September 13th marked the 3rd annual Cachefest! We had over 60 Geocachers from all over the prairies, such as Winnipeg, Altona, Flin Flon, Lake Francis, Regina, Kennedy and of course some of our locals from Dauphin. This was a full day event that started with registration in the morning, followed by an introduction into Geocaching presentation from a member of our Cachefest Committee and off they went! After a day filled with travel, puzzles, and hidden treasure the participants gathered back at City Hall to share their findings. Games were played, fun was had and prizes were given.
For those of you that aren’t in the loop about Geocaching, let us fill you in… Geocaching is a real-world treasure hunt using GPS enabled devices to track down coordinates, while doing this you must be mindful of the Muggles (This is a Geocachers term for a non-Geocacher). Geocaches are containers that are hidden and logged on Geocaching.com, where participants can search for geocaches all over the world! For more information about how to become a Geochacher, visit Geocaching.com.
If this intrigues you, we encourage you to get involved! We have a national MEGA event that is happening on July 18th that will bring Geocachers from coast to coast called Country Legends. To be classified as a MEGA event on Geocaching.com the event must have a minimum of 500+ participants. Country Legends has already reached MEGA status! So you have until July to practice or you’ll be left in the dust!
Mark your calendars for Country Legends on July 18th, 2015 and stay tuned for more information and how you can connect with us via social media!
